daughters-of-neptune

The Daughters of Neptune tradition celebrates 69 years in 2023. During the last six decades many young women between the ages of 14 and 17 have proudly represented the Columbia River Yachting Association. Their role has evolved from serving as nautical-princesses to a role in educating boaters about water safety. As spokespersons for the life jacket public awareness campaign, the CRYA Daughters of Neptune are chosen by their Yacht Club each year to serve as an Ambassador for the Club and a Representative of the Columbia River Yachting Association. As a Daughter of Neptune, our goal is to share education regarding the importance of the proper use of life jackets and to promote boating and water safety. In Greek mythology, the Daughters of Neptune lived under the water and were guardians of all lakes, fountains and rivers. Each Daughter completes a certified educational course to receive their Oregon Boater Education Card, a requirement for the use of motorized watercraft such as jet skis, wave runners, ski boats, dinghies, fishing and recreational boats. The Daughters are instructed on proper use of several different kinds of life jackets preparing them to attend community events throughout the year and demonstrate their proper fit and use. CRYA has partnered with the Oregon State Marine Board and the Multnomah County Sheriff River Patrol at events such as the Portland Boat Show, Christmas Ships and the Rose Festival Starlight Parade.  For information contact This email address is being protected from spambots.
